Takraw and Looktoong.. Thai Passion Projects!

This month has been traditional Thai appreciation month I think. We've worked hard on two special projects that we hope take off in a big way, since they represent some very important and must-be-preseved Thai art forms - Takraw (a Thai wicker ball sport) and Looktoong (basically Thai Folk/country music).

Takraw (working title of this project is the same as the sport) is what we would categorize as a passion project - it is a "6 minute extended trailer" based on a treatment of the script. The person at the helm of this project is none other than Mutita "Air" Na Songkhla Production Coordinator and also Wardrobe Supervisor for Legend Films (Thailand). Her dedication and passion to film is undisputed and her filmography speaks for itself (see here). We are proud to help her reach her goal of bringing another Thai artform - the sport of TAKRAW to the bigscreen, and hope and believe that it will happen.

Our second project this month was the completion of the 45-minute pilot for the a new TV series called "Idin Klin Dao" (From the soil to the stars). It is an epic 13 episodes series that will go through the history and interviews living legends of this Thai music genre "Looktoong" which is essentially the folk music of Thailand . The name means "children of the fields".. literally. The concept is a bit like an arty documentary of present day interviews and shows intercut with historical reels of old photo's and archive material. POSTPROP worked with Tangkwa Matograph on this project to create the look and feel of the Pilot Episode... SO Good luck guys... and by the way the first episode airs tonight on TRUE VISIONS at 10 pm as well! What great timing.

Thank you all for reading! See you next time.

S.H.E. and W.H.O. AND THE MAJESTIC 09.09.09
August blazed by yet again (is it me or is this year getting a bit blurry these days?) and we've been busy with a few new projects which we will happily divulge for our readers here in just a sec...

We thought it was really neat that our two big projects this month involved some neat acronyms (?).. or initials shall I say. We've been happy to meet the super nice folks at W.H.O. aka WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (South East Asian Office, Thailand) and was contracted to work on streamlining their media into slick training material. It is quite a challenge and also quite an important task considering the the organization's notable presence in the "media spotlight" these days (specifically with the H1N1 virus outbreak). We were also impressed with their offices being literally inside the Ministry of Health here, which showed a commitment to the issues here locally. That observation aside, our task was to create material to "train the trainers" and make sure that all procedures are easily and VISUALLY studied by as many departments as possible whether it be "Outbreak Procedures" or "Communication Methods". We even had to do some animation for one of the major scenarios... very interesting work to say the least! Looking forward to Phase 2 (which could be more regional work)!

Also from the POSTPROP furnace this month were two short and oh so sweet commercials which we were entirely responsible for ZE CUTS. The first was the "third phase" of the Thai People TV Campaign manned by Tangkwa Matograph (we love working with you guys!! :). It featured 4x 15 second spots and like 1 x 30 and 1 x 60 director's cuts!!! WOW!!! Major major media blitz guys... good job! Clients were reeeelllyy happy about the nice "output" may I add.. hehe.

And now... to divulge the meaning to our second acronym.. (drum roll please) S... H... E... is for S.H.E., a Taiwanese pop band (who's hottt band members happen to be named, yup - Selina,Hebe, and Ella)!! The trio have been chosen to represent the latest OSIM uKimono Belts - basically a massage belt to help firm up the "tummy", "bums", and "thighs" (o la laa). The TVC also features animated 3D cartoon character known simply as "Mr. Fat" (imagine a cross between jabba the hut and bambi.. maybe that doesn't help, sorry). Basically, Mr. Fat is put in a futuristic arena with the "S.H.E. fighters" who beat the sillly *BLEEP*, sorry, out of him (hahaha). This campaign was our first CHINESE TVC and we are soo soo proud to be part of this great project. Don't worry, we also prepared versions in Taiwanese, and in English folks... so it's regional folks!! woo hoo! Stay tuned!!!! Big THANKS (or XIA XIA!) to Oh at Oriental Post, Raymond at Yes21 Singapore, Alan the super director from Revolution Films Taiwan, and my friend Ching for introducing me to the team. We are tremendously grateful guys... WE HEART YOU! :)

We heart all our readers too!! Thanks for visiting and have a great month everyone.. til next time!

ps. ON 9.09.09 WE HEART HIS MAJESTY THE KING OF THAILAND AND SANG TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITIES BUT WE'RE NOT SINGERS... SO WE'LL EDIT OUR HEARTS OUT FOR HIM TOO!!

Trailers, Mailers, and me.
Another few months have passed and we have been having some fun cutting a brand new trailer and teaser that has been successfully buzzed over several social media sites especially facebook (viral mailer madness). Check it out:

The Bitter/Sweet (directed by Jeff Hare) Trailer and Teaser were cut in FULL HD for future theatrical release at POSTPROP for Angel and Bear Productions. The feature has won BEST DIRECTOR and BEST FEATURE at the Houston International Film Festival in 2009. It is also playing at the Feel Good Film Festival this August 7- 9 at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Super cool! Good luck Jeff!!

Also completed is a soon to be televised 30-sec television commercial for the "Thai People" campaign produced by Tangkwa Matograph. A 60 sec version could be released in Thai theaters as well. It features excepts from leading celebrities on why they love the motherland. This ad was sponsored by the Premier Group.

We've also assisted Film Fac+Pum Sound Studio on a Thai Airways (TG) commercial that turned out great! We'll put a link up once it's out there folks.

Some really fun stuff we did was help Houdini Studio edit (filled in for a week) and work on the feature titles(woohoo) to up and coming ghost movie "Shadows" by John Penny. It's a bit under wraps at the moment but stay tuned.

Max also re-cut and translated a "ONLY THE BRAVE" FRAGRANCE promo for DIESEL in Thailand.

We've had to say farewell to an old friend and Writer/Director Bjorn Turmann who moved to NYC. We spent a few days so far working on a Video Wall concept featuring a "Deconstructed/re-constructed garden" (yes, another experimental piece) and will be released on youtube later this month.

Thanks for reading!

Toy Soldier wins Jury Prize at Monaco Charity Film Festival 2009!
It is with great pride to write that a very special short we worked on in 2008 has become the recipient of the Jury Prize in the category of short film at the Monaco Charity Film Festival 2009 on May 16, 2009.

Toy Soldier was directed by Sa Chiaravanond and edited by Max Tersch. The synopsis:

"A story about a 10 year old boy from Ayudya Province in Thailand who journeys into Bangkok to search for his mother, only to find that she works in the red light district."

A truly heartfelt tale about a true heartbreaking story that is so unfortunately too true for many poor children on the streets of Asia.

RED ALERT! RED ALERT!

OK. We haven't' been bloggin for a while now and thought it a good time to produce one huge long sentence encapsulating everything that has been going on in the last couple months for this particular job in 140 characters and call it a day. And throw in a picture.

Just kidding.

No, we understand that there's a lot of blogs and micro-twitters and feeds out there, so we'll keep it light and informative okay? OK. Nobody's asking (hehe).

The reason for such a quiet 1st quarter is that we have been busy "behind-the-scenes" on outside projects per se (book deals, fine art shows, sound mixes.. well, that's embellishing a bit, but it's not an untruth (Max is translating a Thai book and we've been bothering Rit at Nangmai's soundmixin at Ram Intra Studio. But back to POSTPROP'S POSTWORK: We have seen a swell in RED usage lately, so it's good that we have fully prepared and been assisting many many directors, friends, and partners with much RED support via FCP (Avid's a bit behind here). We've completed our heavy HEAVY 3.5 hour epic rough cut for THE LOST MEDALLION and they are back in L.A. with that now (it was a challenge syncing, sorting, and multi-clipping through footage produced by FOUR RED CAMS). Second, we are so so proud that NYMPH (MAX was assistant editor to great editor NUI YUKOL), new thai movie by Director PEN-EK Ratanaruang made it to Cannes in Un CertainRegard... results will be made tomorrow or something (very exciting for us all). Can't wait to see the film print ourselves once that hits Thai theatres sometime in July. And of course, there's a of RED work being done on commercials lately - we've helped on the workflow on two commercials for DOUBLE-A PAPER and SIAM CEMENT GROUP. The SCG commercial is very CG driven which the RED workflow was a breeze, skipping any sort of film scanning altogether! Our friends at ALTERNATE CG worked on it.

What else... we did some promo's for BAAN BORAN a new Thai restaurant in Samui Island featuring Thai Kohn Puppetry (very cool). And we've helped edit a couple commercials for BIOGROW Thailand for some beauty supplements called "NUTRISS" which aired on TV during the Tiffany Pagent (o la la).

That's it folks... until next time. And here's a photo as promised (the portable station we used on-site for THE LOST MEDALLION.)

Nok Air HD!
Our 1-hr corporate documentary "Nok Air" has finally arrived in HD format, although it will only be aired in standard definition (sorry folks). We have discovered that Blu-ray is also only starting to be a valid distribution process in Thailand. Nevertheless, HD is a perfect archival tool for both video and film futureproofing.

First Quarter Positive Results Posted - whew!
POSTPROP LP. announces first quarter growths have greatly exceeded managerial and investor expectations (and surpassed all local indexes such as the Thai SET). Furthermore, steady growth has defied the absolutely un-brilliant economical disasters triggered by the U.S. sub-prime trauma. (sigh).

Jokes aside, we are happy to announce that we have successfully delivered key presentational projects to Lancome for their Renergie and Platineum products this term, including...

L'Oreal's "Kiehl's" store has been launched in Jan '08! (we worked with the event organizers)...

Diesel's "Fuel for Life" promo was translated here...

Nok Air (Thai budget airline) is cutting a 1-hour documentary with us (directed by Shane Bunnag)! Almost there guys...

A 15-minute promo for The Cove (a new beautifully designed beach condo 60 mins away from BKK) is being edited, colored, and mixed here at the beautifully designed POSTPROP premises...

Oh, did we mention, The Cove promo was shot on Panasonic's P2 Varicam cameras, and we loved the P2 Flashdrives! We have shaved many many days off of the the workflow going tapeless. Hopefully, we will continue to see awesome breakthrough, timesaving technologies such as this that will help increase the speed of delivery and quality in Post-production.
